Reiki is an ancient healing art and roughly translated means universal life force energy.
The aim of the treatment is to channel a healing energy into the client, using gentle holds on the head and body.
This is done with the client clothed and laying comfortably on the treatment couch. Shorter treatments, which are usually head and shoulders only, can be done seated.
The treatment normally follows a set pattern, which begins with the head, and moves firstly down one side of the body, with holds on the shoulder, elbow and then wrist, moving on to the hip, knee, ankle and foot. This is then repeated on the other side of the body. There are also holds over (but not touching), other areas of the body such as the abdomen, before a brief return to the head.
Reiki is a very relaxing treatment, within a calming environment, and often people will fall asleep, which also helps the healing process.
Reiki can help to:
· Promote deep relaxation
· Support the body’s natural ability to heal itself
· Balance the emotions and help one to let go of negative emotional ties
· Increase the effectiveness of other treatment types by harmonising energy flows
· Ease aches and pains in the muscles and joints
Reiki works on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, and therefore should be of benefit to most people.
There are some conditions however where Reiki should not be used, such as Epilepsy and Schizophrenia.
All Reiki treatments are carried out by Barbara.
